Visitors to Glasgow will love the City’s vibrant shopping districts. Whether you’re looking for high street fashion clothes shops or looking for something a bit more special from the fashion designers’ shops that follow the latest catwalk fashion trends – Glasgow has something for everyone.

The shopping districts are all conveniently linked; start at the North of the city in Sauchiehall Street and walk down the pedestrian precinct where you’ll find a mix of cheaper clothing stores before coming to the top of Buchanan Street and the Buchanan Galleries, situated right beside the Royal Concert Hall.

Providing four floors of retail therapy, the lower ground floor has some great places to eat but also The Whisky Store which is an ideal place to pick up a bottle of Scotland’s national drink to remind you of your visit to Glasgow. The upper levels have a wide range of women’s clothes shops and men’s clothing shops, as well as some of the best-known high street brands. You can also find fast food outlets on the top floor of the Galleries.

Head back out to the top of Buchanan Street and you’ll find a range of stores lining the pedestrianised street, and if you’re lucky, the street performers will be entertaining the passers by with everything from bagpipes to magic tricks. Buchanan Street also has some traditional Scottish souvenir shops where you can buy a range of tartan goods including kilts.

Just off Buchanan Street is Royal Exchange Square – home to many open-air cafes and restaurants providing outdoor seating where you can stop to rest your legs. The Square has strings of overhead lighting which make it feel like Christmas all year round, but it is also home to the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art - worth popping in to have a quick look round before you continue on your journey.

Further down Buchanan Street is the exquisite Princes Square which houses some of the most exclusive designer brands selling luxury handbags and shoes, clothes and cosmetics along with independent boutiques. Everything about Princess Square screams elegance; from the shops to the cafes and restaurants in the courtyard (on the lowest level) and alfresco terrace (on level two) providing a great choice of eatery for all tastes.

The Argyle Arcade is a close neighbor to Princes Square. Housing more than 30 diamond merchants and jewelers, it was Scotland’s first indoor shopping mall. Designed by John Baird and built in 1828, it is a Grade A listed building with early Victorian architecture and unusual cast iron construction.

Walking through the Arcade will take you out onto Argyle Street, which again offers a huge range of high street brands and you can access another of Glasgow’s shopping malls from here, the St Enoch Centre, where you can shop till you drop.

And it’s not just clothing shops Glasgow has to offer, if you keep walking East along Argyle Street, you’ll reach the Merchant City where you can find many furniture stores offering everything from the chic and unusual modern furniture to antiques and eclectic items.

If your ideal city break is one spent shopping, then Glasgow is the destination to choose – just remember to leave enough space in your luggage to take all your shopping back home.
